I have been working at Office Depot full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    Co-workers are pleasant.
    Mediocre benefits, but it's something.
Good pay if you stay around long enough

    Cons

Corporate has no idea what it's doing. Too many new ideas that are untested, faulty, costly, and unrealistic on a store level, leaving store personnel with the responsibility to make these bad ideas work. I've heard the phrase, "do the best you can with it" so many times that it should be our company slogan. But, do it wrong and it's all your fault.

The ICSE program is a joke. Providing excellent customer service should be a priority, but dictating to your staff every action is pathetic. We are told what to say, when to say it, who to talk to, what ares of the store we are limited to, and any deviation from this results in penalties.
(FYI: we had 50+% turnover since the program started)
We are held accountable by individuals who "visit" our stores, spy on us from our parking lots, and stay around only long enough to criticize any mistake we make.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Nobody goes to a restaurant because they have the best waiters. They go because they want the food.
If we offer products that people do not want, services that (in my opinion) take too long, questionable pricing practices, or anything else that keeps customers out of the building, they will not care about the excellent customer service, because they will never see it.

I have been working at Office Depot

    Pros

    name on resume
    10% employee discount
can get work done on slow days
you can tell when its hyped up lies coming out of corporate

    Cons

1-ISCE "journy" = putting all the work on front end and managers to allow the tech and furnature associates to sell to the customers but for no longer than 5 min
all associates must quiz every other associate every 60 seconds or so and a lot of paperwork
2- pay is minimum wage with no pay increase unless the whole store does well and no commision unles you double or triple your last years best and only if your the best in a district
    3 - corporate has micro-mange-itis
4- if your on the bottom its always your fault
5- copy center is the most demanding section of the store outside of managers because half the time copy center acts as managers

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

learn that 2 associates till noon is not a effective way to cut costs nor are 2 associates from 6 till close is an effective way of cutting costs, ISCE is and i cant emphasise strongly enough NOT LESS WORK no matter how many times you say its less work you cant lie to us we know your cutting costs
STOP LIEING TO YOUR ASSOCIATES wed trust a corporate that would be honest
