Current Employee - Territory Development Representative  in  San Jose, CA
Current Employee - Territory Development Representative in San Jose, CA

Pros

People are nice and willing to help.
Competitive but not divisive.
Given time to learn.
World class training.
Lots of opportunity to move up or around.
Freedom in schedule.

Cons

Poor overall management of strategy and marketing.
National marketing does not help for regional sales.
Competition between Business Solutions Division and Retail.
Strategy rolled out before ready, leading to much confusion.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Simplify directives for each position.
Have marketing/strategy fully ready before roll-out.
Stop wasting money on small things, keep spending in line.
Have a way to better reward those doing well.

Recommends
Negative Outlook
No opinion of CEO

Current Employee - Customer Service Specialist I in Hixson, TN

    Pros

-Generally very nice customers (Most people are nice and professional. As far as retail goes, they have an extremely nice customer base).
-Flexible hours (My store manager will do anything to accommodate employees' time off requests, and availability changes, to the point of working double shifts to cover for people.)
-Helpful management (They always try to teach employees new things every day, and are usually available to answer any questions)

    Cons

-Low pay for stockers (They start at minimum wage, giving almost no opportunities to move out of the stocking line of work into anything else.)
-Customer obsession to the point of stalking (We must greet every single customer and attend to their needs as if we're "personal shoppers".)
-Pushy sales practices (We must try to "attach" products to everything we sell, in order to fill a market basket.)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Back off the customer just a bit, and don't try to sell things to people that they don't want. "By The Way" sales are good, but the methods used are a bit insanity-inducing.

    Pros

Learning Opportunities, growth opportunities. Upper management seems to be open to suggestions.
Very dynamic teams. Smart people. Great work environment.

    Cons

The company has a hierarchical structure.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be a little less hierarchical, the company is trying to change and is trying to appeal to younger customers. Would be great to promote more flexibility when it comes to decision making.
Need to differentiate from Staples and Office Max.
    Great company.
