I worked at Office Depot part-time for more than a year

Pros

Most of my co-workers were great to work with.
The second manager we had was very cool and very effective as a manager.
They complied with my desired working hours.
Some of the customers were cool and nice.
They had many goals and made them apparent to the company. Always looked to grow.

Cons

Corporate did not communicate with each other at all. One department would want us to do something one way and another would want things done another way. Therefore, they would always complain about our "lack of effort" and "lack of cooperation." Our manager was almost always fed up.
They would get mad if we didn't reach sales goals knowing that the store was a 5K store, meaning it was smaller than a normal operating store. So the goals they desired were a bit unattainable for our store.
The first manager was the worse.
A few of the Supervisors and Assistant Managers thought they were above the law.
Waiting for lunch breaks sucked if you started work after 2 or more people.
The pay isn't that great, but then again most retail jobs aren't.
A lot of the customers were horrible.
(I would have rated them 1 or 2 stars if it weren't for my co-workers.)

Advice to ManagementAdvice

This is more to Corporate, but you guys need to hire the managers who care enough and have the people skills with not only their customers but with their employees. You people also need to communicate with everyone and stop acting like dictators just because you're in positions of leadership!

I worked at Office Depot full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Good culture, and a company that believes in their own values. Management treats you fairly and the in-store customer experience model may be the best service model in all of specialty retail.

    Cons

For a company that sells IT, it's internal technology is painfully slow and has many problems. Every associate has to be multi-faceted and cross trained for the model to work. Very difficult to manage or work in a high turnover location.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

After merging with Office Max, invest in IT, it will pay off in productivity and make stores run more efficiently
