I have been working at Office of the Comptroller of the Currency full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

The work is always fresh, challenging, and interesting--it's not every day that you can be part of the biggest banking overhaul in 80 years. Coworkers are sharp, hardworking, and relaxed. Management encourages wellness: subsidized gym, flexible work schedules (most people have every other Friday off), free flu shots, etc. Great compensation and benefits. Culture emphasizes teamwork over hierarchy.

Cons

The bureaucracy took some getting used to and still frustrates me on occasion. Management is less than transparent on compensation and benefits decisions. Promotions are essentially at fixed intervals and take years (~5) to earn.

Advice to Management

Deemphasize seniority and invest in the younger employees, particularly with a large number of employees eligible for retirement. Accept more employee input into administrative decisions (e.g., office layout)

    Pros

As the banking industry changes the nature of our work changes. So it's always challenging and never dull.

    Cons

    Senior leadership is sometimes short-sighted.

    Advice to Management

None. They've heard it all before.

The OCC is a great place for both a career or career development.

I worked at Office of the Comptroller of the Currency full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The exposure to the banking industry and banking executives is unmatched.

    Cons

The travel can be difficult on families and the experiences will relate more toward the regulatory management of banking as compared to business development and customer contact.
