Started off great, not so happy now

Sales Consultant (Current Employee)
Amherst, NY

I have been working at OfficeMax part-time for less than a year

ProsFlexible with your schedule and time off
Small staff, so you get close to your co-workers
Not very difficult

ConsToo many tasks assigned to one associate
You are expected to put out merchandise from the truck almost instantly
Mangers don't see that for most people, this is not a lifelong career path
Understaffed, pay is almost laughable

Advice to Senior ManagementStart paying your employees better, and stop making them do so many tasks. As a computer sales consultant, let me focus on my job rather than pushing so hard to get stuff out on the floor. And when you do put stuff out, they yell at you the next week because numbers are bad. The pay for what I do is absolutely terrible. I complain to my mangers and they don't care either. I enjoy working for the company most of the time, but expecting us to do 7 tasks at once, which any other place would require 7 different employees, is absolutely terrible.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Failing to Realize Potential Due to Poor Business Model

Desktop Publisher (Former Employee)
Dallas, TX

I worked at OfficeMax full-time for more than 3 years

Pros: Copy center had a variety of options at a reasonable cost and provided custom solutions to the employees. Benefits were decent, once I got them,… Cons: Poor management that failed to recognize the value of its employees' ideas and skills. Management often complained about mistakes, but rarely rewarded consistent, hard work.… Advice to Senior Management: Listen to your employees and work harder to create a positive work environment. I hope this is more the case now. Allowing design and production… No, I would not recommend this company to a friend More

OK to good store leadership, district manager is OK to good but corporate is less than OK.

ImPress Associate (Current Employee)
Lewisville, TX

I have been working at OfficeMax full-time for more than a year

Pros: •Managers willing to work around hours •Most associates are good to work with •Impress… Cons: •Very high expectations with image editing skills for comparability very low pay. •Understaffed and have to turn customers away. •Want to spend "quality" time… Advice to Senior Management: •Advice to store leaders - More, more, more one on one training with each associate on and off sales floor. •Advice to above store leadership… No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company… More
