I worked at OfficeMax part-time (more than an year)

Pros

A lot of hours, slow during most of the day.

Cons

Pay: After working very hard for a year I got a 22 cent raise. And they didn't adjust that for minimum wage increase, so I was making 4 cents over minimum and started 25 cents over minimum.
Sales: They push you to sell more and more, and the compensation that you receive for selling is minuscule at best.
Management: They were alright. It's a stressful job for them so they can get a little grouchy.
Shift length: You get 30 minute breaks, and there's a break room. Depending on your schedule they might work you at 5 am in the morning. I usually got 8 or 10 hour shifts.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give us more incentive to sell!

    very micromanaged with hitting sales numbers, stores are to stay under payroll when you already don't have workers

    flexible scheduling for workers. paid holidays

    low pay too much stress over max assurances (replacement plans)

    Pros

    Learned a lot about printing and copy production. Even tried my hand at some graphic design.

    Cons

    I had my print-side responsibilities plus the responsibilities of a cashier, salesman, receiving person, and janitor. Conversely, no cashier, manager or salesman could cover for Impress' four-man team.

    Get to work. Get on the floor and interact with the customers and your employees.
