OfficeMax – “Better when it was Boise”

Pros

The people that were there when the company was Boise Cascade Office Products were great - not so much after Officemax came in. That could be, of course, due to mass layoffs and - more importantly - how they were handled.

Cons

Constantly-changing IT management who did not get to know the employees and their capabilities. The afore-mentioned layoffs (telling a group of 40+ people in one room that they were just laid off is not a great morale-builder.

Advice to Senior Management

Understand and learn about the competencies and capabilities of your employees.
