Former Employee - Furniture Specialist - Key Holder in Columbus, IN

I worked at OfficeMax full-time for less than a year

Pros

Fun atmosphere
Good insurance
Every day is different

Cons

Horrible pay
Managers never close

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay people by how much responsibility you give them - if they are opening/closing a $15k/day store, $10.25 isn't an appropriate wage

Recommends
No opinion of CEO

I have been working at OfficeMax full-time

    Pros

Benefits, pockets of good employees, flexible, not micro managed. Gym, food court, easily accessible.

    Cons

Too many employees in this dept that don't like one another. There's also too much gossip, cliques, backstabbing. Seems that each department is against one another and do not work together.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Nothing more to say. Lofty goals and high expectations in a increasingly competitive marketplace.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook
    Disapproves of CEO

I have been working at OfficeMax part-time for more than a year

    Pros

    Coworkers are friendly and fun
Some customers actually make your day
Job isn't hard, but it's the management that makes it unbearable

    Cons

General Manager does not respect availability times and does not understand employees
Short-staffed, part-time associates are usually teenagers that quit after a couple months
Expected to sell products and services without much training
    Awful pay
Managers spend more time in office than actually helping out their employees
No breaks except for unpaid lunch break
Not an ethical company at all

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Fix the ads
    Donating "on destroy" stuff
Promote recycling and follow through with it
    Fixing local management
    Focus on the employees' needs

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook
    Disapproves of CEO
