I have been working at OfficeMax full-time (more than 8 years)

Pros

Over the years, I've learned a lot in my various positions with the company. I feel that I've got a strong understanding of many different disciplines that I didn't have coming in.

Cons

The uncertainty right now is a killer. The recent merge with Office Depot has left everyone wondering if their jobs will exist a year from now - including me. There's a strong likelihood that the headquarters will move to Florida within a year or two and there will probably be a lot of lay-offs prior to that.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Attempt to make sure that opportunities to move up are available and visible. There's nothing more discouraging than when the company eliminates the only position that is your avenue to a promotion.

I worked at OfficeMax part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

The atmosphere created by your coworkers can be fun

    Cons

You are treated like your nothing by management. The sales goals pressure you far beyond normal retail and can create stress. The amount of work they give you and the skill required is far beyond the pay they offer. Idk if it was just my store but the management seemed incompetent.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Raise your pay, have more employees out on the floor at all times and not just 2 at the busiest times and expect them to cover the whole store.
