Pros

You have the opportunity to learn so much, no matter what dept you work in.
Growth in the company is easy
Travel is paid for and your budget for trips is really nice
Company picnics, food trunks, sports team, happy hour...I can go on

Cons

HR is crap most of the time in the westcoast office at least
The constant layoffs make things very uncomfortable
Raises are like unicorns, you will never see one (WestCoast)
Upper management make changes without out truly considering the consequences of the work culture, employees, and potential clientele. Results were a few clients left have been lost. One even walked out after coming into the office for only an hour or so.

    I worked at Ogilvy & Mather full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

    You will work with some of the best and brightest in the industry at Ogilvy and work on world-class brands. Depending on the department you work in, your boss and the account(s) you work on you can have a very varied experience. It never is dull, there is much to learn and do and if you're a high-performer ability to move from account to account and even move to different departments (although sometimes movement happens way to slow).

    Cons

    While you're working with many bright people, you'll all see many of them come and go. There is not enough emphasis on keeping the best talent at Ogilvy and ensuring they're developing and having thriving careers. Lip service is paid, but actions fall short. Rotations can take forever or be held up, raises can be held off for years due to overall poor business performance even if your personal performance is great and employee reviews are hard to come by (most managers aren't very good and giving honest and timely feedback). Sr. Management is a bit of good ole boys (and some girls) club and when it comes to tightening the belt they are never part of the solution (layoffs rarely include Sr. level executives, expensive car service and business trips still go on for them). Highly matrixed structure (and separate P&Ls) over complicates what could be a more seamless working environment and provide integrated solutions for clients.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Simplify the business structure, find a way to have less competition within business units and silos. Go back to core values that David had in treating employees like family and not just a number on a spreadsheet. Hold everyone accountable in upper management, stop the special treatment for Sr. Executives. Hold managers accountable for developing their people, and that doesn't just mean filling out only 1x a year the worst possible format of an employee review form...it means connecting with the employee on a regular basis, having discussions, giving feedback and guidance and ensuring they have a sense of career path at Ogilvy.

    I have been working at Ogilvy & Mather full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    Lots of big clients, interesting project and good creatives, still a bit of decency lingering in the culture and pretty good benefits.

    Cons

    Understaffed and somehow not always as good as it should be, increasingly driven by finance in London and, as a result, not investing as it should in the business.

    Follow your best instincts -- its a good place that can still be great again
