I have been working at Ohio State University Medical Center full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Healthcare Benefits, Educational Benefits, Decent base salaries w/shift and wknd differentials for hourly employees, benefits for domestic-partners & same sex partners. Workout facility (have to pay for a membership) that is reasonable.

    Cons

HR dept is HORRIBLE! Very scripted with responses, slow with the hiring process (so try not to be discouraged if you're trying to get employed), and some can be rude but not all. if you are female and/or a person of color you will NOT find many within the manager/director/VP levels. Yes, overall there are a diverse level of people employe at OSUMC but they are close to being non-existent at high level positions. If you are in search of a high level position OSUMC likes to hiring OUTSIDE of the company the majority of the time. Parking is ABSOLUTELY ridiculous, get use to it b/c it has always been this way and it will only get worse. Btw you have to pay for parking too. Compensation for "salaried" employees can be on the lower end of the spectrum, so watch what you apply for.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management dept need to take into consideration the way they treat, describe, talk to, and present themselves to their dept. Remember teh "worker bees" are the one that help keep you dept afloat, the least you could do is speak to them like adults. To upper management, you need to take a good look at your mid-level managers and hold them accountable for poor actions. Try asking the staff about their supervisors and managers to get a feel of what is going on in the dept and quit taking the work of your mid-level managers, i.e. leads/supervisors/managers
