I worked at Old Time Pottery

Pros

A good place to start especially for teens. Promotions are given out yearly.

Cons

Upper management belittles you, corporate is cracking down on a lot of stores and interfering on on day to day issues that a stock associate figure out. The company suffers from something called a side ways promotion meaning more hours same pay and a mountain load of responsibility.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat your employees with a little more respect. Those employees that are working hard deserve a proper promotion not to take over the responsibility's of upper management.

    Pros

    15% employee discount
    Close knit between co-workers
    Somewhat flexible schedules (sometimes)
One week of paid vacation for part time employees after one year of service.
Eligibility for Direct Deposit after 90 days.

    Cons

    Rude and uninformed management
Management often has favorites and those are the ones that get the hours and promotions
25 hours a week maximum for part time employees except on holidays
You will more than likely be forced to learn how to run the cash register whether you want to or not
Having the feeling of being constantly watched
    Very high turnover rate

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start treating your employees better and maybe give raises to deserving, hard working people every now and then and maybe your employee moral will improve and your high turnover rate will go down.

I have been working at Old Time Pottery

    Pros

Company did allow flexibility of marchandising ideas at store level, and and kept everything simple. The store manager is given a lot of leeway to run their store. Their ability to buy in bulk and secure good deal buys, allows company to sell merchandise at very reasonable prices.

    Cons

The benefits and pay are subpar compared to same position requirements in similar fields. Technology is behind. Upper management is very secretive with information that may be helpful to store management to run store more efficiently. They deffinately need better benefits. If you are looking for a balance of life, this in not the company for you. Because of the small size of the company, there is little oppurtunity to move up. Question some of the store hours. Waste of money in utility and employee expenses when you have a home decor store open until 11pm. Holiday hours odd too.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat your people better. There is not any reason to have a store open on Thanksgiving Day or Easter.
