Pros

They have a lot of happy hours and the salary.

Cons

Some of the worst Senior Management I've ever encountered. They have no clue how to give good, smart direction or utilize their employee's best talents. Generally, you have two maybe three superiors that are never on the same page when giving direction, which makes one spin his/her wheels and impossible to do a good job. They make going into work everyday extremely a job in itself.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a serious look at the way you run things internally because nobody is happy there. It's just a job to them.

OLSON is a sweatshop. Long hours, no praise.

    Pros

You are able to work on nice brands and the people who work there are friendly. Summer hours (if you're able to take them).

    Cons

Competitive environment, long daily hours and weekend hours, Management structure is poor.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to concerns from junior staff. Structure is too top-heavy. Be more timely in giving performance reviews. People get promoted too quickly and don't have management experience. Not very family-oriented because you're always forced to work long hours and weekends.

    I worked at Olson

    Pros

OLSON is a well-recognized name in both interactive and traditional media, and is a great name to have on your resume. For full-time employees, the perks are great: mini kitchens, foosball tables, a gym and good pay. For contractors, OLSON offers highly competitive hourly rates.

    Cons

OLSON's interactive products generally look great, but under the hood, it's clear that they cut corners and don't care about the best practices that hold the web together. Poor communication between departments was the norm, and the client was the one suffering. The pay is great, but contractors will wait 45-60 days for payment and will never be contacted again.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire independent contractors as needed, but once you find someone that does good work, bring them in on future projects or offer them a position. Ensure that communication and web standards are big priorities on every project: it's not only about delivering to the client on time, it's about ensuring that you're delivering a solid product.
