Pros

This company really does turn out excellent products. There are some really great people who contribute to a truly “worthwhile work” feeling. There is a real value in the balance of work/personal life. Company vehicles, for field service personnel only, are offered. Tuition reimbursement and various other benefit perks are available. Casual Fridays are nice.

Cons

Admittedly, this is my first exposure to a corporate working environment and sadly, it’s a rather disappointing experience. As many others on this site have commented, management (and subordinates) are certainly not encouraged to offer independent thought. There seems to be no real direction or leadership on where the company is going. In the end, the customer is often shafted due to the lack of leadership and blinders that management has become accustomed to wearing. Unless you’re in a very clear and obvious old-boy network circle, there is no real room advancement. The Health insurance is dismal at best and many of the other benefits have been dropped or modified to the point where they’re virtually not even worth offering.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

TAKE CHANCES! Hire new leadership, loosen the reigns, and embrace new ideas and innovation. Lastly, give employees a reason to want to “exceed expectations” – break up that Long Island network and offer promotion and opportunities to others outside this network.

    Pros

Although management often tried to scare you straight many of the people that worked there were genuinely kinda.
    Best products on the market!

    Cons

    Very tight management system.
Working there was like living in a panopticon; you could not see who was watching but you always were.
HR and IT teams were given unlimited power to spy and track down any inefficiencies

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Loosen up the reigns a bit and you will see that we will be just as or more productive when we are not forced into a mold.

    Pros

Excellent opportunities to advance job knowledge. Good potential for career advancement. Excellent people to work with, for, and around. Exciting 3-5 year outlook....if they go with SAP

    Cons

Salary no longer competitive with comparable companies for comparable positions. UHC worst possible insurance option in PA (I'm sure it was great when the company was HQ'd on Long Island, but they are in PA now, and doctors here don't want it) Overall tendancy to resist change to existing processes & tech (but that is typical anywhere).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please make the decision to go to SAP quickly, and then pick the best people for the implementation team (not just the people who have been around the longest and feel they have the right to be on it...mastery of JDE does not necessarily mean mastery of SAP). Then change our processes to be best in class. Don't take a best in class software and customize it to the point where it is just shoving our current (bad) processes into a great system. That wouldn't solve any problems. SAP is the best for a reason, listen to them when they say that they have a better way of doing something.
