I have been working at Olympus NDT full-time (more than an year)

Pros

They just renovated the offices that's pretty much the only pro that I can't think of. The management and employees are still the same old people in a highly specialized industry. Extremely old people working there, I can probably count with one hand the people under 30 working there. Compensation and benefits are ok I guess. But if you're looking for job satisfaction and feeling like you're accomplished something at the end of the day, no DOT work here.
Management is like a club, if you're not a member forget about being heard. The CEO does not even work there, he lives in Japan and the day to day operations is handled by the COO who is a fairly nice guy.

Cons

Extremely boring industry where nothing has happened in the past 25 years. Old anti-social people looking to retire fairly soon.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be nice to employees and try to bring in a younger generation to grow the company.

Boring workplace, too many old people but very stable.

    Pros

Work hours are very flexible. Management is really good at keeping people informed on what's going on in the company. Good benefits and excellent work/life balance.

    Cons

Boring place to work if you are young. Most of the people are engineers and lack social skills. NDT is a very specialized industry and it is hard to move up if you're not interested in the products.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management is doing a great job motivating people amid Olympus corporate scandal. Which this division does not have anything to do with it.

I have been working at Olympus NDT

    Pros

They talk a good game to get you in the door. They seem kind when interviewing but that is nothing but a facade.

    Cons

The supervisor had no experience and was just plain mean to people. She should have been fired long ago.

HR is not a neutral party they take sides, usually management's.

Employee appreciation events are often a joke. For instance, "opening day" event, 1 hot dog, 1 soda and a small bag of chips. This was called lunch. Why bother having them at all.

They focus on the "defects" and never tell you when you are doing a good job.

    Management hides.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Senior management needs to wake up and realize that the people actually doing the work need to be treated with respect. They need to weed out the bad managers and supervisors. they need to treat everyone fairly.
