Current Employee - Night Auditor in Austin, TX

I have been working at Omni Hotels

Pros

- Meal provided to each employee during shift
- Occassional tips
- Downtime during the overnight shift allows time for working on other projects and goals. Great for students!
- Nightly paperwork is quick, simple and rarely ever changes
- Managers and co-workers are friendly and easygoing

Cons

- Many of the managers are severely incompetent and lack proper communication skills. This makes it difficult to present concerns and nearly impossible to resolve legitimate issues regarding work conditions and guest relations.
- The food in the meal provided is very low quality. It has been a long and continuous losing battle trying to get the kitchen to serve decent food to the employees.
- The departments are constantly battling with each other instead of trying to cooperate and work together.
- Management training programs are ineffective.
- Wtih few exceptions, managers do not take concerns and suggestions for improvement seriously.
- Poor management and leadership causes continual problems for guests and creates a stressful work environment for the employees.
- Problem causing employees are not properly disciplined.

I have been working at Omni Hotels

    Pros

Benefits. Opportunities for advancement. Wages competitive for the Asheville area. GPI has a strong presence in the Asheville community.

    Cons

Higher than average turnover for staff. Staff seniority levels are often more important than job performance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to set a better example for professionalism in the resort. Managment having drinks in the F&B outlets, while the staff is struggling to tend to guests, is not such a good idea.

I have been working at Omni Hotels

    Pros

Since Omni Hotels is a young company and a smaller company it tends to have a family atmosphere instead of feeling like you are working for a huge corporation. Employees also can have a piece of mind knowing that they are working for a financially sound company since Omni is privately owned and operated by one billionaire and executives do not have to answer to stock holders. They also have a good management training programm for young managers to the industry out of college.

    Cons

Since Omni is a young company they are still figuring out through trial and error how to run a luxury hotel brand. Omni is a financially sound company however their owner is a billionarie not by running hotels but has expertise in a different industry. Omni also lacks international talet and perspective since it operates hotels only in North America.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There are some great leaders with Omni but unfortunately not enough .The companies HR department needs to better train and retain their management employees and seek out atnd keep those talented managers.
