Former Employee - Engineer in Dublin, Dublin (Ireland)

Pros

Cutting edge stuff being developed there
There is potential to develop your career there if you are so inclined.
There is education funding

Cons

Staff work long hours and under pressure
Unfriendly atmosphere. Corporate culture is a bit rude.
Internal support departments are incompetent.
Office is very cramped.
Toilets are dirty.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

IT support and facilities management need to improve.
Try to recruit staff from more than one college. Most of the staff are from one college and the culture is vvey homogenous as a result.

    Pros

I learned a lot working at Openet and worked with some very sharp people. The benefits were pretty good, and at first the atmosphere was great.

Work-life balance was hit-or-miss. There were times when it was pretty good, but also a lot of get-it-done-yesterday fire drills. Not unusual for a small technology company with huge telecom clients, I think.

Overall my experience was positive, but I wouldn't go back there now.

    Cons

Openet seems to be losing its touch. It grew very rapidly for a few years, but over the last year or so seems to be shrinking just as rapidly. Openet has some very compelling products, but doesn't seem to be able to focus on really polishing them and moving them forward.

The company seemed quite management-heavy toward the end of my time there.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook

    Pros

    * Get to travel to Dublin
    * Decent salary, but average overall package
    * The company still retains a number of a high caliber engineers and architects

    Cons

    * Every trip needs to be approved by several managers, all the way to CEO
    * Employees are not trusted to make even simple decisions, delegation is an alien term
    * Talent is leaving
    * Innovation is focused primarily on cost savings
    * Known to raid employee benefiits
    * Everything you read in the recent reviews is, sadly, true

    Doesn't Recommend
