Pros

The company declares itself as a nonprofit and has very effective people in the main leadership positions and has locations all over the world.

Cons

The local management is terrible. The job description and interviews are highly misleading, down to lying about what interns role was and what the company was paying for. High cultural barriers in the China branch and no one is available to speak English. After completing all work for the week and planning a short trip which would mean leaving early on Friday, they threatened to fire me from a position which I was not being paid for and which actually cost a thousands of dollars of my own money, after finishing a project that would have otherwise cost them hundreds of dollars. When trying to reason with them and explaining there was no more work to be done, they told me to quit and to be out of the apartment in the next few hours.

Advice to Management

Gain a better understanding for the interns coming into the company. Be clear about the job and not misleading until it is too late. Live up to the agreed contract. Know the actual goings on in local offices.

    Pros

The mission and team members are a huge plus. The organization does great work around the world and the individuals working there are talented.

    Cons

As a mid-level employee, clear professional development and growth opportunities are key. The leadership refuses to see how strong their younger talent is and cultivate them. Individuals who work there believe in their mission but can't see a future at the organization because no effort is placed on employee engagement or growth. When staff turnover occurs, positions are only back filled if its a senior level staffer causing employees to be overworked. It also causes high stress environment. If you are looking for a salary increase or promotion, expect the paperwork and approval to take months - it will be a battle.

    Advice to Management

invest in the future of your employees.

  2. Wonderful mission and mostly nice people, but office environment is tense.

    Pros

Organization is mission driven and makes you feel your job really matters in helping the poor. Many of the people are really great.

    Cons

Office environment is tense. Obvious favoritism. Need to hire upper management that has fresh ideas...maybe even a few managers with more contemporary ideas. Very little room for advancement.

    Advice to Management

Hire upper management that is more contemporary in management style.
