Pros

sink-or-swim mentality mixed with healthy doses of support. tremendously fun culture, a small company vibe with the opportunity to work with the top of the Fortune 500. They value talent, smarts, creativity, development of skills. Interesting, challenging work. Encourage writing exceptional code. Client facing work came quickly to me, as a young person I can't think of anywhere I'd rather work in Austin.

Cons

Projects can start to get redundant (nature of the sales process) - may be on the same technologies for a while unless you push pretty hard to move on to something else. Communication from home base in Boston to the Austin office is sometimes a little difficult

    Pros

    - If you put in the work, you will get the recognition and advancement
    - Culture promotes good camaraderie among employees
    - If staffed right, one can get exposure to a ton of different projects
    - Healthy process for project reviews and year-end 360 reviews gives everyone the chance to get feedback from their co-workers

    Cons

    - Company is transitioning; it's in the middle of developing a product line to supplement the professional services group. To date, there are no known stories of consulting companies making a successful switch to a product company
    - Product line is being developed in Romania for cost reasons, so if you like products more than consulting and you are in the US, you are out-of-luck unless you want to move to Bucharest
    - Clear and unfortunate cultural separation between delivery group and senior management

    Advice to Management

    - Leadership team could be more transparent about their decision making process
    - Product development might be better off being done out of the US despite the higher labor costs: better communication and faster, more agile turnaround from a dedicated US team may yield faster results with higher quality and faster ROI. Delivery group proximity to product group may also yield better product assimilation with better implementation results and higher customer satisfaction and retention.

    Pros

Flexibility, lots of work travel (plus if you are young and single), heavy use of open source software specifically in CMS engagements (plone, alfresco, zope and php). Great place to build your chops if CMS is your thing.

    Cons

Erratic leadership, focused more on short term bottom line revenue rather than long term customer satisfaction. I encountered integrity violation while on the job when it came to dealing with customers. They do have smart, seasoned and mature leadership but they seem to be out voted by the more "dodgy" ones. The dog that barks the loudest gets the most attention syndrome was present while I worked there. Also growing within the company seemed more of a popularity contest rather than mature business execution.

    Advice to Management

Try not to be flash in the pan and repeat Sapient. Maybe focus more on true differentiation and leadership when it comes to growing employees.
