I worked at Optimal Solutions Group, LLC full-time for less than a year

Pros

Near public transportation (Metro). Caters to recent grads who desperately need a job. Other potential future employers are in the same building.

Cons

The issues I would have raised have already been quite excellently and thoroughly covered in the majority of these posts: the micro-managing, unprofessionalism of senior staff, favoritism, back-stabbing, spying, denigration of employees through firm-wide emails, lack of mentoring, lack of team cohesion, strange accounting of hours, hostile work atmosphere, lack of real career growth, and the lack of a real work-home balance...all are what you get when you sign up to work here.

If I had read these reviews before I was given an offer, I would be just reading and taking heed of them instead of (unfortunately) writing one.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Given that 3 years' worth of prior posts have given plenty of advice to senior management that seems to have fallen on deaf ears, it makes no sense to continue trying to advise them here.

There are many other places to work...don't work here

I worked at Optimal Solutions Group, LLC

    Pros

Given the 50% turnover rate, you will have great opportunities to work on other projects, including in positions you have absolutely no qualifications for (e.g., somebody right out of undergrad serving as Project Director of a multi million dollar study).

This is a great place to learn what NOT to do when running a business.

    Cons

-Management is completely devoid of soft skills. They do not understand employees, the role of HR, motivation, or the costs of turnover.

-Management is extremely abusive. I have seen the COO engage in open e-mail flame wars with employees, copying many unecessary people, and continuing the fight even after being proven wrong (word of advice: never let management at this company know when they're' wrong). Combined with the owners' attempts to arrange witch hunts to identify leaks and gossip, this is an extremely unsettling place to work.

-After you've worked here a while, you'll realize that every single person is simply trying to engage in CYA all the time. That means a lot of backstabbing and blame (for the most part, employees who have been there longer than three years are there for a reason - they are as corrupt as the owners). It starts at the top with the owners assigning "sentinels," who then extend their blaming along the chain. It's very difficult to actually complete project work for the client because there are 30 forms to fill out each month to CYA.

-The firm would be a lot better place to work if mistakes were accepted. Though management says that they want mistakes to be open and business to be transparent, this statement will never be believable until they start admitting their own mistakes; stop firing people for small mistakes; stop playing favorites so egregiously; and give employees alternative ways to succeed if they don't want certain positions.

-Sometimes contracts are taken away due to the company's poor performance, and the employees working on that project (and who were under the direction of the CEO and COO) are fired.

-Glassdoor lets you rate the company on a few characteristics. If I could give negative scores for the following categories, I would:
    Leadership abilities of Senior management
    Competence of Senior management
Employer support in balancing between work life and personal life
Fairness in how promotions are given and people are treated
The level of respect shown by management toward employees

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

"Culture eats strategy for breakfast - every time."

Sell the firm and remove yourself completely from the operations. Or bring in a real CEO and COO and let them run it while you vacation at your beach house. Seriously.

I have been working at Optimal Solutions Group, LLC

    Pros

Optimal Solutions Group, LLC provides junior researchers with opportunties to take on challenging projects that will assist them to grow professionally.

    Cons

employees are giving challenging projects without the proper training and or guidance in order to succeed. If the project fails the employee is blamed, black listed and reprimanded.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Value employees and change your management style. Declining morale = decreased productivity = decreased profits. Mentor staff instead of blaming them. Restore commitment, job satisfaction and motivation.
