Pros

The training and skills you obtain during your time at Oracle are top notch. You get the chance to do the most technically advanced implementations of the particular Oracle product line you were hired for. Within Oracle consulting, you're also able to move around in your product family vertical (BI), and work on various systems (OBIEE, ODI, Hyperion).

Cons

The constant re-orgs make it tough to have a relationship with your manager. Also, many projects within consulting don't have the same collaborative feel as our partner consulting firms (Accenture, Deloitte, IBM).

Advice to Management

Senior Management should create more detailed metrics for Oracle Consulting to enable the staff to have clear goals to reach, and exceed for promotion. Also, the sales team should work more closely with consulting, to enable Oracle consulting to be the preferred implementer of our own products. Each region of the US differs in relation to the amount of work Oracle consulting has.

    Pros

For certain levels of Engineers, hourly compensation instead of salary makes up for the often time of long hours. Inconsistent middle management and the challenge of transitioning to ITIL V3 is causing a lot of confusion within the IT team but this also creates opportunities for qualified people. Although there is generally little career guidance, I felt that one could create one's own program for advancement and if the individual was good at what they did, opportunities are often available. Basically one can write your own ticket. Telecommuting is supported and the tools work well.

    Cons

Some poor middle management and poor leadership within the upper middle management tier. Depending upon department, raises were seldom seen or were so small that they were almost an insult many .

    Advice to Management

As far as overall opinion, Senior Management has guided the company to a very successful position. The use of acquisition instead of all internal development was a great move. For years Oracle APPS were pretty poor.

    Pros

it has good cafes and the work is relatively challenging. the groups are somewhat self-autonomous so you can do a bunch of things as long as you have the resources to go after there. but nothing can be that big or else it will hit the purview of senior management and then the whole process will slow down or come to a complete standstill.

    Cons

it is a very slow company to react and thus the projects are few and far between. don't expect any performance reviews that are worthwhile either. they started to do them towards the end of my time there, but they weren't taken seriously

    Advice to Management

    none
