Pros

Lots of resources, lots of opportunities to learn new technologies, endless amount of work, high chance of getting your work into product, not asked to work on narrow focus, good medical benefits

Cons

hardly any raises, some of my colleagues were getting paid well below the industry average for their skill level, lots of take-overs and mergers leading to politics in upper levels of management and cause endless reorganizations. culture is very focused on business and bottom line.

Advice to Management

share the wealth. Perks to employees like a gym and good food at the expense of a low salary discriminate against the employees' families.

    Pros

    - Pays well
    - Giant company with limitless career growth and networking opportunities
    - Spend absurd amounts of money entertaining employees

    Cons

    - EXTREMELY metric driven. As a result, more time is spent trying to inflate numbers than actually creating business.
    - Spend absurd amounts of money entertaining employees
    - Aggressive sales mindset for everyone. Profit before customers. Get the sale at any cost.
    - At Oracle, Larry Ellison = God
    - Bottom line: If you are not at least a bit obsessed with making more money, I feel that Oracle will probably not be a good fit.

    Advice to Management

Emphasize customer service and customer care over numbers.

  2. Low Rewards, High Stress

    Pros

Good health care benefits, stable company.

    Cons

Hard work, loyalty, knowledge are not rewarded. Raises and bonuses have been dismal for many years, and the latest round was an insult. At the same time, aggressive schedules have ratcheted up stress and pressure. It's getting more and more political, and teamwork is affected. Top management does not seem to realize, or doesn't care, that in a software company, most of the knowledge is in people's heads, and when they leave, it leaves with them. The longer you stay, the further behind you fall in terms of compensation as compared to the market. People are leaving, but I guess to top management, not enough.

    Advice to Management

Share the wealth. Reward your employees. There should be more vacation days.
