I have been working at Oracle full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

-Smart colleagues -Challenging work -Financial stability = job security -Be #1 in your marketplace (Oracle plays to win, and it's great to see your products succeed). - Very supportive of working at home and distributed teams Oracle does things in a very rational way: it tries to help its customers. If you keep that in mind then you have a lot of freedom to innovate, and amazing resources to help you. Oracle also does some of the most important, mission-critical business software on the planet. Your contributions will really make a difference.

Cons

- Some old-fashioned software development ideas - Home-brewed dev tools are behind the curve The official dev model is very waterfall-oriented. That being said, most product groups work at sneaking in better models. Some of the tools needed by developers are internally developed, rather old, and can be quite frustrating to deal with.

Advice to Management

Embrace Agile methodologies! Git or Mercurial will address RCS needs. Keep focussed on the customer: it keeps us all heading in the right direction.

    Pros

Ability to work from home is encouraged

    Cons

Lost vacation days, minimum holidays, 'self-service' is pitiful and gives a user no direction, after acquisition EVERYTHING is turned upside down - new applications, new methodologies, no good processes kept

    Advice to Management

Don't try to hammer square pegs into a round hole.
