I worked at Oracle full-time for more than a year

Pros

Cutting edge technology. Fast paced environment. Talented people. Very successful company. Well position for continued success.

Cons

Work-life balance should be more of a priority for the company. Compensation on the low side. Management seems to defer to will of sales teams and allow them to control non-sales agenda. More effort should be made to bring remote teams together at least once a year. Benefits were merely satisfactory.

I worked at Oracle for more than a year

    Pros

The benefits of working at Oracle are many: Great resume builder, outstanding training, and gaining exposure to a very solid product portfolio. The pay is pretty decent, as are the benefits. After spending a year there, you will have the opportunity to move on outside the company, but the chances of moving up internally are few and far in between.

    Cons

The work environment is extremely intense and often turns reasonable people into jerks - yelling and intimidation is common at the end of each quarter. Many seasoned, experienced employees leave due to the unreasonable amount of stress that exists as a result of too many VP's who constantly try to justify their existence and create a contentious relationship with the field AND customers. The prevailing view is that it's OK to frustrate and anger a customer, so long as the revenue is delivered.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Wake up and ask yourself why there are so many VP's in OD? Why is the turnover so high? Why do you put ridiculous amounts of pressure on the first line managers? Why is HR constantly getting involved with this organization? If those questions are answered honestly, you are on the path to fixing the problems. Talk is cheap, but actions are not....

I have been working at Oracle full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Flex able time. Health and 401k contributions good.

    Cons

No experience in running a hardware company. Trying to deploy software customer service practices in hardware data centers Lack of understanding critical customer requirements.
Respoce time to fix hardware can take 2-3 weeks and get lost in backline support before being paged out to field personnel leading to customer dissatisfaction and anger by the time field help is involved..
No further sales or development in the storage products and traditional storage SE and FE from StorageTek are being let go or are leaving to seek employment else ware.
No downward vision of hardware progression by high level CEO's.
Company does not need your input on best practices and ignores or is angered you even bring it up. They invented the wheel they just need bodies to run it.
Total disconnect between departments, hardware, software, backline,IT.No urgency to get correct tools i.e laptops.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Let the proven practices of StorageTek and Sun run the hardware side,Oracle has lost too many customer to ignorance unwillingness to work with customers. Customer constantly express "hard to work with" company. They do their tech refresh with companies that have a life-cycle plan and change data center equipment to other venders cutting out Oracle/Sun?StorageTek from those data centers.
