Other Employee Reviews for Oracle

  1. Aggressive, action oriented and exciting company. Middle management sucks! Not much innovation here but great execution!

    Pros

Good Pay. Stable Job. Aggressive and action oriented environment. Executive management is great.

    Cons

Middle management sucks! Too many VPs and too much title inflation in the company. Product development is not assimilating the acquisitions well, while the sales and other sides of the business are doing a much better job handing acquisitions.

    Advice to Management

The company is getting too big and the management pool is very poor. HR department does nothing but very basic stuff. People development is very poor. Good management does not exist in the company anymore. Apps product development organization has grown like weed with no justification. If software is commoditizing, we cannot see that in the way software development is managed in the company. If you want to aspire your company to be managed like GE, you better start reading Welch's and Bossidy's books because i cannot see any trace of those best practices in the company.

    Pros

After joining Oracle, you can see how small small group work together / not work together / fight with each other. If you can survive in a small group foes < 2 years, you are the champ & would have no problem in another other company. You get a change to work on critical account ( if part of consulting / field support) & see how to DUMP & RUN with customer issues, blame customer / his employees for all the problems created by Oracle software. You also get a chance to meet some vert talented & best software guru's in the industry.

    Cons

Do not care about employees much, but so much worry for Wall Street results, know how to save money - with no employees travel. They will waste millions of dollars in Open World, entertaing customers, but when its time to share wealth with employees, its like pulling teeth from the manager. Most of the managers have been @ Oracle for more than 15 years & reach a stage where they won't quit Oracle, unable to keep up with technological advances, won't be in touch with customers. Bars for engineers has been going up n up while managers have been lucky with not much work to do.

    Advice to Management

looks like too much fat has gotten collected at mid-level management & needs triming. Most of the managers know nothing of the group they run & need to be trained. They spend less than 8 hours on office work & have no clue on how to imporve margins, motivate groups & work with other groups
