Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management is doing its best, considering restraints caused from the legislature. Offering teachers more support and assistance would be nice.

I have been working at Orange County Schools

    Pros

The benefits are pretty good. My co-workers are awesome. The administrators are very supportive.

    Cons

We are not paid beyond 37.5 hours per week, yet we put in way more time than that. Also, some of the students are ridiculously disrespectful.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep eliminating behavior issues, and learning will continue.

OCPS, great place to work but always consider a back up plan!

I have been working at Orange County Schools

    Pros

OCPS has many professional development opportunities throughout the year for free. Teachers can attend a variety of workshops to help them attain new knowledge while accumulating certification points for their renewals. Salaries are competitive among the state's other school districts as well as the health benefits provided. The teachers and classified personnel have unions that offer many benefits to the employees. Although health benefits could improve, they are decent compared to what other companies could be providing. The district has many great schools and it's a bonus to bring your own children to the school you work at, especially if it's an A school. The state has a very clear way of evaluating its schools and although Orange county is one of the biggest districts, it has received great reviews from the state.

    Cons

Salaries overall do not go at par with the rate of inflation. The cost of living in Orlando has drastically increased in the last 5 years, but the teacher salaries have not. The stipends for graduate and post graduate degrees are a joke, therefore why would one want to spend thousands of dollars seeking a doctorate when you won't be able to regain that money back through your job? The method of evaluating school administrators is poor. So far I haven't been given the opportunity to evaluate any of the school principals I have worked for. There is a lot of red tape when it comes to school budget and getting teachers what they need for their classrooms. The district needs to get better are providing support for ESE programs in all schools, not just a few.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your teachers' needs. Parents have a lot of chances to vent their frustrations and have opportunities to voice their concerns, but teachers are rarely invited to participate in forums that would help improve the disctrict or their particular schools without fear of retaliation by administrators. More bonuses should be offered to teachers based on performance using a variety of evaluation tools, not just student test scores .
