I worked at Organization of American States full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

It is a good way to get into the development/international affairs world. Really diverse environment. They pay relatively well. If you work in a good area and have a good boss, its a great place to get your career going. You can have the opportunity to travel extensively and have significant responsibility at a young age.

    Cons

Very bureaucratic organization, which makes implementing impactful projects difficult. You also have to deal with a lot of internal politics. Major financial crisis so all projects need to look for specific funding elsewhere. Too many bureaucrats that have been there for too long.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

A human resources restructuring is imminent to provide more "staff" opportunities for young people and alleviate financial stress.

I worked at Organization of American States as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

You get to be in an "important" organization in the Americas

    Cons

They hire a lot of interns for free labor and the majority are "consultants" so they don't have to give them any benefits or "staff" status.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give a stipend to interns that come from all over Latin America.
