Cons

After a shake up and some hard times a while, the place now has the right people in the right places and improvements happen every day.
The only con is about resources-money, staff, --typical of non profits--can get frustrating striving for the excellence without enough tools-
Yet, despite the terrible economy, top management strives to treat all employees fairly and rewards them with what they can.

    Pros

The non-profit has a mission to support the equality of LGBT people in the workplace so their mission is valuable and necessary.

    Cons

Management communicates poorly with staff, direction of a work project can change without warning. High turnover. Respect for employees is somewhat lacking.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management training for ED and general manager, better oversight by Board of Directors. Employee recognition is generally poor.

    Former Employee - Anonymous Employee
    Former Employee - Anonymous Employee

    Pros

    - Dedicated and competent staff working in earnest toward an admirable mission
    - Good work/life balance
    - Excellent retirement and benefits plan
    - Good salaries for a non-profit
    - Strong fundraising efforts ensure financial stability
    - High turnover entails opportunities to move up and gain new experience

    Cons

    - Organization prioritizes its resources to improve image of "key staff" over progressing in its mission
    - Organization focuses resources and programming on a population who are least likely to need workplace discrimination training and resources
    - Lack of creativity or innovation in programs and service offerings, which are repeated year after year
    - Board of Directors has a hands-off approach to managing the organization and maintains little or no interaction with staff
    - Limited internal and external accountability mechanisms; staff who raise issues are ignored, silenced or forced out of the organization; and when internal strife reaches a boiling point, staff are forced through an organizational development process to repair relations which simply mask underlying and more structural problems
    - Very high turnover among staff contributes to a workplace culture of frustration, fear and a two-tiered organization of "management" and "workers"
    - Organization is overly focused on avoiding retaliation from disgruntled former employees, rather than nurturing and empowering existing employees

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - A fundamentally new direction, with new leadership, is necessary for the organization to remake itself and shed existing problems
    - Stand by your commitment to accountability and transparency
    - Reward and nurture your current employees, and delegate decision making to your managers
    - Give staff the power to set long-term organizational goals

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook
    Disapproves of CEO
