I have been working at Overland Storage

Pros

This team is always looking forward to find ways to gain an advantage over the competition. It's an established company that works and acts like a start-up. Willing to do what it takes to be successful.

Cons

Lots of ambition, so if you're looking for a place to get lost in the shuffle, this isn't the place for you. You'll get recognized for the great things you do and be held accountable for mistakes.

    I worked at Overland Storage

    Pros

Good technical engineers and support personnel- but stretched thin

    Cons

INhuman HR department- hope you don't need your benefits...
    No recognition
No chance of promotion or opportunity to advance
    No feedback from management

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start treating your employees as a solution to your problem and not a problem- after all- they build your product and make it work.

    I worked at Overland Storage

    Pros

Overland has a diverse range of products and solutions for data back up and retention.
They have a number of talented people working there.
Most of the people at Overland are great to work with.

    Cons

Reduced compensation/benefits compared to similar industries
No feedback on job performance, mentoring, encouragement, or training
The vision comes from above down with the message "Get on the Train or Get Lost"
Shuffling of roles and strategy in middle and upper management since 2008 that has staved off going out of business but hard on employee morale, opportunity, or promotion.
First company I have worked that requires a careful consistent review of overtime, vacation/sick accrual, correct paid hours, etc.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

A vision is built from the ground up. Don't just proclaim "do the job or move out of the way." Leadership requires bringing the troops and captains up on the same plan-otherwise there is no execution or support. Reform your HR and Finance division- either they are not trained well or they do not have enough staff. Give Engineering and research what is needed- they are creating the interesting products that Overland offers.
