I have been working at Overstock.com full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

If you're looking for a company that will test every single vendor out, you've come to the right place.

    Cons

Developers are underutilized and upper management has zero e-commerce experience outside of Overstock.com.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire a diverse employee base. Pay better. Pick executives from legitimate e-commerce powerhouses as opposed to catalog-based businesses etc. Your 'develop execs internally' philosophy sucks. PS: Stop watching how long your employees stay in the office and start measuring performance.

I worked at Overstock.com full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

not really any pro's to working here

    Cons

They can't manage their call volume so they have put almost everyone on the phone so you can't get the help that you need when you need it. Causing the customers to get upset. They don't care how abusive customers are they just make you deal with it because of their own stupid policies. By not getting the help needed you can't advance because nobody cares about your development or even trying to help you. If you don't hit the ground running eventually they terminate you. They change the rules without telling you and then you get in trouble for nor abiding by the rules. If by chance you do advance you either are related or sleeping with somebody. At one time I heard it was a good company to work for but oh how the mighty have fallen.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

step down or step aside and see how the real world customer service operates has far as how to personally treat your employees. Get better training to be able to manage what you have and get to know your employees better. Your antiquated work force system needs an overhaul so help is available when needed
