I have been working at Oxford University

    Pros

Top university, especially in humanities and social science
Oxford is a beautiful city and the university's college are also beautiful and historic

    Cons

    A lot of bureaucracy
Somewhat "insular" culture for academic hires - it seems departments often prefer to hire internal candidates who "know the system" rather than world leaders

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Reduce administration & red tape

I have been working at Oxford University

    Pros

    Interesting and intelligent colleagues
Being part of a prestigious and world-renowned university with a rich history
    Beautiful surroundings
    Good support services
    Flexible working hours

    Cons

    Very convoluted organizational structures
Lack of clarity about accountability and authority
Decision making can be painfully slow and highly political

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You've got a great brand, amongs the strongest in the world in the field of higher education. Find new ways to exploit that, you are at risk of being out-flanked by universities in the US and Asia that are opening overseas campuses and developing distance learning programmes.
