pros would be the benefits, bonuses, compensation, working together with other supervisors to insure the most productive path forward

Cons

cons would be some members of upper management, the lack of discipline handed out, when expectation levels are not met employees receive no reprimand

    I worked at Oxy Vinyls full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

    Comparable employee benefits to other refineries in the area. Starting pay is a bit lower than comparable companies, but still pretty good.

    Cons

    HR is useless. They do nothing to help their employees make heads or tails of benefits. They do not take the time to get to know their employees and anything about them. They make rash decisions based solely on the bottom line of money, with no regard to loyalty to long-term employees and their commitment to the job. They randomly make judgement calls to one employee but not the other employees with the same issues. There is no consistency in punishment or rules across the lines of employment. Engineers do not get out in the units to learn about the actual day-to-day runnings of the units, only try to implement their theories without knowing they will or won't work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Start considering that your employees are actual humans and make decisions accordingly. Quit letting the bottom line dictate all policy and know that having good employee morale makes employees much more likely to want to do well for your company. Quit taxing employees on frivolous gifts that weren't asked for nor wanted.

    Pros

    Good pay, benefits comparable to other refineries

    Cons

    No loyalty to long term employees. No connect between management and the actual labor force. No support to good employees, only negative feedback. HR involvement in micro-managing issues that should be handled by supervisors. No sense of team-building or working towards employee morale. Everything micromanaged down to the bottom line on money. High profit plant does nothing to boost employee morale or encourage employee loyalty. Employee bonus program tied to loss-time injuries, which means everyone can be penalized for one person's misstep.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Maybe take a look at reverse discrimination in some of your plants. Have HR get off the micro-management train and instead work on promoting employee relations. Have engineers get outside and involved with the labor force to see that theory doesn't always translate into a working idea.
