OHL is a great resume builder because they will let you work on whatever you want, but not a good employer.

I have been working at Ozburn-Hessey Logistics

    Pros

OHL does not hinder individuals for identifying a problem and working to solve it, they have been around for many years and will continue to exist for a long time. If challenge is what you seek, OHL is full of opportunity.

    Cons

The budget of OHL is never a realistic one, so bonuses are always paid based on discretion (never 100%) and capital dollars to invest in sound technology are always either put off or a cheaper option than the best option is chosen. This results in a great deal of extra work and a lot of money spent on a solution that, ultimately, won't work but will be a little better until dollars are there. OHL is so focused on what has to be present to attract investors that they have lost site of the actual health of the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Members of management at OHL do not communicate honestly with employees or (it seems) with the each other or the board of directors. Someone needs to make an investment in the infrastructure and employees of OHL and that means there won't be double digit growth one year, but it will allow the company to reach it's ultimate goals and to grow exponentially.

It could be frustrating - there was a disconnect between salaried employees and hourly associates

    I worked at Ozburn-Hessey Logistics

    Pros

If you work with a good management team, it can be rewarding. There are many opportunities to learn new things and take on new responsibilities.

    Cons

There is a general lack of respect for the hourly associates. They seemed to have used the economic situation as an opportunity to cut benefits by doing away with employer contributions to the 401K plan, and raising the employee share of the cost for health insurance. The attitude of management toward regular employees seemed to say " deal with it - if you don't like it, there are a million people in line to take your job"

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you have dedicated employees, treat them as adults and give them opportunities to advance and grow. People generally react better when treated with respect and dignity than when treated with distain.
