I worked at PBS full-time (more than 5 years)

Pros

The mission is impeccable, you can feel great about the work you do, and there are some amazing people pouring their hearts into this company.

Cons

The upper management is not as good as could be; tight budgets and constant political threat keep PBS from growing as well as it could.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep focused on people who share the vision of the mission. The issues PBS faces are not about being more corporate; they are about how best to serve people with educational and cultural media in the 21st Century.

I have been working at PBS full-time

    Pros

Laid back and quiet work environment.

    Cons

Chaotic chain-of-command structure with absolutely no sense of accountability for errors made. Severe disconnect and utter lack of communication between departments.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Progress & innovation have come to a screeching halt due to some unfortunate internal politics and senior management's disregard for common sense. Culture starts at the top and if management continues to refuse to 'make waves' and not infuse true leadership into the organization, it will fail.

I worked at PBS as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

The producers are mostly former journalists for TV stations in the area who are really passionate about helping you learn the ropes. Kind management and a fun, relaxed staff.

    Cons

The internship is unpaid internship and, as is the case with many internships, oftentimes there's not a lot to do.
