Pros

Great environment smart people, very challenging!

Cons

It's still not an internet company although the online tag has been added. They can learn from looking at other internet companies as far as perks etc...but it's much better than it was and moving in the right direction.

Advice to Management

Separate the online portion from the financial portion...it would make it easier for everyone.

A good short-term play for some interesting experience, quick cash, but not much else.

    Pros

With regards to the retail arm only, pretty much the only reason to work there is the possibility of above-average compensation and the possibility to take part in the trading/capital management arm's great financial success.

    Cons

A tendency to hire programmers, who while sharp, are too easily lead, have very little opinions of their own, and have poor communications skills. This makes for sloppy, sloppy management and "progress" actually feels like trudging most of the time.

    Advice to Management

People in the trenches aren't exactly stupid, and people high in the retail arm aren't necessarily geniuses. There needs to be a dialog between the two groups to ensure that the best ideas get out. Peak6 Retail doesn't inherently command the same sort of unconditional respect (ie., "it's your honor to work for us") that the capital management arm does. Compensation is good, but not phenomenal, and there's most certainly the possibility of finding more gratifying work in other places. Smart programmers who get frustrated because of capricious or uneducated business-side leadership can and will leave.

    Pros

They will pay you more than you're worth, including an unrivaled benefits package.

    Cons

While there are plenty of bright people, with brilliance comes arrogance. This may just be the nature of the industry, but these are not people you want to play poker with in your home. It's a highly competitive environment, and as soon as you let down your guard, you are out.

    Advice to Management

Taking care of your people doesn't just mean sending them home with as much as you can "afford" to pay them. You could save a lot on your already healthy bottom line by managing your turnover better and giving people a break once in awhile. You run your shop the way H.H. Holmes went about building his torture hotel for the 1893 World's fair...
