PHH Arval – “Not the worst place I ever worked, but I'm not planning on retiring here.”
Pros
The starting pay is decent - not great but somewhere near the middle of the scale for most professional positions. The benefits are OK - again, not amazing, but I think they compare to most companies this size. My boss is very fair and supportive although I'm in the minority. the company is well-known and reputable in the area so you're not embarrassed to say you work there (call me shallow but that matters to me).
Cons
While the starting pay is good, the yearly raises are pathetic. If you stay there for 5-10 years (and it's amazing how many people do) you'll eventually be underpaid in the marketplace. Management could care less about your long-term career growth. As long as you can do the exact tasks for a job they don't encourage you to learn the complete subject and become an expert. I've only been here a few years but most people I talk to say it was actually fun to work here 5-6 years ago.
Advice to Senior Management
Wise up and realize the true value of your employees. Morale is incredibly low and, while the market is flooded with candidates, it's not flooded with QUALITY candidates. Everybody I talk to at other companies says it impossible to find enough good candidates for their open positions. PHH is at risk of a major talent shortage in the near future.
