I have been working at PNNL

Pros

Pnnl has many advanced equipment that you may take advantage of. Also there are, great scientists to work with.
Meanwhile, the working environment is great.

Cons

Things go a little bit slow since you are not allowed to touch many things but depend on other people such as technicians.
Also it's good for family but kind of boring for singles.

It is one of the best labs to gain some experience, advance your career, and get recognition by your colleagues.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

PNNL is a great organization. However, if I could change ONE thing it would be to work harder at rewarding high performing employees, and getting rid of low performance employees.

I have been working at PNNL

    Pros

PNNL has very competitive salaries and a diverse range of research. Benefits are very good, including a pension plan. They support flexible work hours for salaried staff and provide good options for working remotely.

    Cons

Health insurance premiums continue to increase, and are very high for post-doctoral researchers with families. There are numerous rules, regulations, and red-tape associated with nearly every activity, and this takes some getting used to. Annual computer-based training courses can be tedious. Electrical safety rules are overly strict.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep the number of management positions / levels to a minimum -- the goal of the lab is research, and it's the researchers who are bringing in grant money.
