Pros

There is a lot of funding and thus a lot of resources than a typical research lab in a university. And there are people from different backgrounds that can help you from different angles. Overall, it is a good place to work.

Cons

Usually, there are too many samples to run on limited instrument, and you need to wait a long time to get your results and get your research moving forward.

    Pros

I've been at the Lab for more than 20 years because it has great work/life balance, but like alot of other things at the labs, this flexibility is decreasing.

    Cons

Definitely an old boys network in management.

The Tri-Cities has a very limited job market. So if you become dissatisfied with your work at the lab, it means packing up your family and moving. Management knows that people don't want to move, so the raises are tiny. You can negotiate a decent salary when you begin, but it won't last.

Will not keep on trained staff. Would rather hire post-docs temporarily.

    Pros

    Flexible schedule and good equipment.

    Cons

They don't keep staff around. They hire post-docs and when their term is up they're out the door.

    Advice to Management

What management? The management here is unaccountable for their actions and does not communicate with their staff.
