I have been working at PPG full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Decent starting pay for manual labor at a DC

    Cons

Too many useless employees standing around while others work. Many employees use intimidation and accusations to get others in trouble. Middle and upper management seems afraid to confront and dismiss these people and punish others instead. Middle management clueless as to what goes on on a day to day basis. Work standards are not evenly enforced. Advancement is purely based on your ability to brown nose. Mandatory overtime is instituted way to often, when hiring a few more people or making people pull their weight would eliminate the need.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Grow a pair and clean house. Treating people who work hard like crap while treating those who don't like kings is bad. Make employee evaluations, individuals daily productivity numbers and reviews be done by someone outside the facility to avoid favoritism. Stop giving out overtime to people who do less during the day to make overtime to finish something necessary. Don't just promote your best buddy because it would be cool to have them in the office with you.

I worked at PPG full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Fellow employees can be, ok. It is really easy to get hired if you are drug free. You get to learn a lot about the coatings industry.

    Cons

Pay is bad. Starting pay is bad, too. With bad starting pay the employees that are hired are not very good. Mistakes can cost the company a huge amount of money. If you mistint a quart and it gets put on a wall it can cost the company thousands of dollars. Most "professional" customers are one step away from being homeless. They use double standards in enforcing rules.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You have to pay people more too get quality employees. You can't expect zero errors with the type of people you hire. Also, don't use double standards when disciplining your employees.
