You are expected to work extremely long hours and aren't compensated, employees are not respected or valued, terrible pay, and lack of leadership or guidelines. Employees are constantly criticized for the quality of work but they don't set any clear expectations.

    Pros

You get to work in a beautiful all white office in Soho. It is very spacious with many other interns so you will definitely make friends. It is a very hands on experience and you learn about how the communication process works between editors and brands trying to get exposure. A lot of the tasks involve Fashion GPS, managing samples, noting credits, merchandizing, inventory etc. If the timing is right, you'll get to work shows for NYFW as well as presentations. Great exposure and valuable experience. I even got to meet a couple designers.

    Cons

The hours are long and it is a very high pressure, fast-paced setting but you do benefit from this because you need to be accustomed to this kind of environment in the fashion industry anyway. There are some runs involved maybe going to Conde Nast or Hearst to pick up or drop things off. Sample management can feel tedious, but its part of the job description. You need to bring your own laptop. You also need to work very independently and catch on quick, you are expected to know things even though you are new. Luckily, the other interns are actually pretty helpful...but also pretty busy.

    Advice to Management

Better upkeep of sticker machine because they break down and people get really stressed out over things that are not the interns fault. Get more printers. Create more fashion GPS accounts so people aren't signing each other off.
