I worked at PRA Health Sciences full-time (less than an year)

Pros

Many talented and committed individuals.
Technology and feasibility systems are great.

Cons

Executive management is focused on power rather than on employees and clients. There was back-stabbing, sabotaging, and blatantly inappropriate behavior at times. Scientific and executive attention toward winning new projects are lacking once projects are underway.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on talented staff and commitment to clients.

    I have been working at PRA Health Sciences full-time

    Pros

    Great employees to work with majority of the time

    Cons

    - Incompetent management that works at home most of the time and too scared to get their hands dirty, hence out of touch with their teams.

    - Promotion based on favoritism rather than merit. Managers will only promote people who are their buddies or do not pose a threat to the middle management rather than capable employees.

    - The working environment has changed to a very unhappy place without any laughter or smiles due to overloading its employees with too much workload and studies.

    - No leadership and team building exercises because that would impair the budget

    - New regional director is from PPD which brought the PPD culture to PRA which have shown some negative impacts quality with more cost cuts and a degree of micromanagement

    - Job cuts are more common

    - Due to cuts, tasks are being sought in other offices which bring inefficiency to the local team’s turn around timeline.

    - Competent employees will be overloaded while identified incompetent employees will receive a handful of studies. This causes competent ones to overload and stress and leave.

    - Team helping within the same department or other departments are discouraged since it will impact on billing Sponsor.

    - Salaries, car allowance and travel budget are all below industry standard even though they advertise as being competitive.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Value your employees rather than over promising your sponsors with unrealistic deliverables which negatively impacts on the wellbeing of your employees and their loyalty.

    Don’t be scared of saying “NO” to Sponsors like other bigger CROs when Sponsor requests are unrealistic.

    Good benefits, good PTO, good people to work with in day to day operation

    Cons

    Absolutely no job security, have been laying off people since 2008. Layoffs in small numbers every few months so people don't notice. Very, very low merit raises ( not really based on merit, based on budget only), mostly going to upper management. Too many chiefs and very few braves doing the actual work and no recognition for your contribution. No life/work balance, very few employees to do the work because of the constant layoffs. Upper managment does not communicate with the employees. Upper management definitely does not respect loyalty.

    Respect your employees and honor their loyalty.
