Pros

The mission and region are fantastic. PREL helps improve educational outcomes for children who desperately need it. The work environment is friendly overall.

Cons

The nature of the financial environment for the company results in some uncertainty regarding future funding. This is currently the case for most education nonprofits.

Advice to Management

There is a perception of a serious need for management to become more active and to solve ongoing organizational issues.

    Pros

PREL's work can be extremely gratifying as it serves the US Affiliated Pacific Islands. It offers opportunities to make a difference in places where education is resource limited.

    Cons

PREL has been in a downward spiral since the retirement of its founding CEO. His successor had little understanding of the region and of educational technology. As a result, revenue under his term declined by over 50%. Key staff left the organization and their departure caused a serious decline in the organization's capacity. Several staff who were responsible for the organization's growth were actually encouraged to leave and replaced with staff with little understanding of the region. Ineffective staff have been rewarded while effective staff are not recognized. As a result, many productive staff members have left the organization.

    Advice to Management

Listen to their clients and recruit staff with a cultural awareness of the Pacific and a track record of successful proposal writing and grant awards.
