I have been working at Pacific Interpreters

Pros

Helping people who need medical care and don't speak English.

Cons

Don't bother getting sick and thinking you'll still have a job. Not even a few days with the flu. You won't get any raises even with good performance. Family dies? Prepare to be harassed. Prepare to be harassed daily to work overtime, and prepare to be bullied too. The pay is very little.

It is a horrible place to work, a desperation job.

    Pros

The only good reason I can think of to work there is to get a paycheck.

    Cons

The pay is bad, so you will have to work massive amounts of overtime, and they will want you to. They will beg and coerce you to work overtime, daily ask you to work thru your lunch. That will leave you feeling too sick and tired sick and tired to do an already exhausting job of taking one call after another and speaking as fast as you can all day (and night) long. Then they'll fire you if you get sick. No social conscience whatsoever.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Become human and stop treating CSA's like something to be scaped off the bottom of your shoe.

Best place to work for a medical interpreter from home

I have been working at Pacific Interpreters

    Pros

Over the phone interpretation, mostly medical, according to your own schedule. They have a lot of clients in any language and they are offering more salary than any other legit employer for working from home in this economy. I looked for a job for over eight months and found this as the best option if you want to work according to your own schedule. Even if you work somewhere, you can use up your part time working with them and they would not mind even if you stay on call an hour or log off during the hours that you have committed to. You can take a long vacation without prior notice as well. You don't have to do anything else but talk English and your other language properly and have a good quality phone line. And you don't obviously get paid a lot if you follow your own schedule but you do get more money than you expect because they have more number of clients than you would imagine.

    Cons

Obviously there wouldn't be any benefits, but you don't need them if you work part time and from home do you? Some of the days are full of calls and some days, esp weekends would be cold but you were never going to depend on it as your primary source of income, were you? And I don't have much idea about the increase in rate after experience or any promotions or something. No cons really.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Good job guys... A great social healthcare work plus generating so many jobs and helping the country and people in a tough time. Happy to be working with you guys!
