Pros

Great benefit package, opportunities to move up in the company are abundant, and PL is a honest and ethical company so you never feel like you're being asked to do something you feel is wrong. The company is well positioned financially and is one of the top finance organizations in the industry.

Cons

Slow in bringing in new technologies; need to be less reactionary and more proactive when responding to market changes. Don't want to rest on your laurels after all.

Advice to Management

Rely less on relationships and more on talent when promoting within.

    Pros

Nothing worth mentioning while I was working there.

    Cons

Requires to work early hours without any flexibility. Requires new employees to buy the entire department (25+ people) donuts which is a very bad company culture to have. Not able to wear jeans on Fridays at all. No break rooms on any floors at the newport beach facility except the cafeteria. Work pace is slow with no rush in completing projects because they can always be delayed indefinitely. Management only cares about themselves and lacks effort to boost moral. A lot of employees there don't work the full 8 hour days, specially management personnel which makes their team members follow suit. If you don't like to work, just want to take it easy and waiting for retirement, this is the job for you. If you prefer something more challenging then do not bother to apply.

    Advice to Management

Management should set a good example of company policies. My manager always comes late, after 9am and leaves early, before 4pm while telling the team members they must come before 9am and cannot be late at all. Management also should try to socialize with fellow team members and not just the ones that they favor.

    Pros

Intelligent team and always helpful. Job was great and always provided for an opportunity to continuously learn and grow.

    Cons

Directors and Managers are hired from the outside rather than internal which leads to some employees having the same job for more than 10 years without an opportunity for improvement. Although a salary merit increase will definitely be seen year after year.
