Incredible growth & development opportunity!

Former Employee - Store Manager
Former Employee - Store Manager

I worked at Pacific Sunwear full-time (more than 5 years)

Pros

Great atmosphere, good discount, structured company, communication from corp to store level was great, DM comm was great, training workshops were phenomenal.

Cons

Sadly, when the company started making cuts, they started with their employees who had time invested, earning decent salaries. Then hired ppl with less experience and payed them less to do the same job.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stay loyal to those who are loyal to your co.

    Pros

Paycheck, Health Insurance and a discount on skater clothes

    Cons

Everything. This company is strapped for cash and has taken it all away from career development. Turnover is insanely high because any rational person would quit one week in. Horribly disorganized and unprofessional.
Stay away. Get a job as a janitor if you need the money. This place will kill you. You will have no life. I will never shop there again.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

DMs need to focus on developing their SMs. Career advancement is not a reality here. Put some time and effort into training your talent. We run your stores, help us make them great. Do you ever wonder why, on average, a store manager only lasts 2 months before they quit? Horrible company.

    Pros

Dress code is relaxed and teaches awesome selling culture.

    Cons

No payroll!! Base payroll is 135 hours which with 3 full time managers barely allows for closers. As a manager your literally there alone a lot so your not really a manager your an associate with a manager title. They expect you to sell but also get a ton of tasks done to by yourself. Windows are ridiculous all that stuff you see in them has to be built and they give no extra hours.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Payroll!! if you expect stores to function and have gains you need to spend a little to make gains that's why your closing stores. Plus hiring only ppl that are brand relevant is not top talent. You need people who are about the business.
