Former Contractor - SEO Copywriter in Elgin, IL
Former Contractor - SEO Copywriter in Elgin, IL

I worked at Paladin as a contractor (less than a year)

Pros

The contract advertised is for a large retailer who has been around for ages. Contract copywriters, especially, up and comers can gain some really valuable experience from a staff well-positioned to offer training and meaningful edits. Great resume builder.

Cons

Long-term, anyone who is creative or wants to continue growing will get bored writing about he same apparel day in and day out. Unpredictable workloads. You are either cramming to finish 50-60 descriptions per day or more, or there is no work at all, and management tells you to go home or not come in at all for weeks at a time. Not a great situation for someone who depends on a steady paycheck.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

The team managers are great people who build up their staff and contract help as much as they can. They try their best to solve the challenges and logistics issues that are completely out of their control.

Unsatisfactory employment experience with Paladin Protective Systems

Former Employee - Anonymous Employee in Valley View, OH
Former Employee - Anonymous Employee in Valley View, OH

I worked at Paladin full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

No pros to report, company is very disorganized.

    Cons

Very high turnover of workforce both in the office staff and technical staffing, approximately 25% turnover. Management is very unorganized and unwilling to embark into new technology or consider new ideas to streamline processes. The company ownership does not want to change and the software systems do not integrate, information has to be data entered into 2-3 different systems. Management is unwilling to update their computer systems and inventory tracking systems.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Upgrade systems and implement strategic planning. Be the boss and not the friend to your employees.

I worked at Paladin full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

This company works with a lot of different technology and working here in a technical role will allow you to touch a lot of different technologies, make good contacts, and even a few friends. Expect to wear many hats and be thrown in the fire quite often. If you're the kind of person who can adapt and perform there may be an opportunity to grow your skills.

You can learn something from every workplace. The president/ceo has his heart in the right place and he is the only reason folks stay any extended period of time.

    Cons

This is a highly volatile and disorganized workplace. Nepotism runs deep and expect a revolving door with much of the staff. Also beware of the younger management, one day you'll be in their good graces and the next day you will be asking yourself why you work here.

Expect to learn a lot from these folks on how "not" to run a company.

There is zero upward mobility here.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

When your teams bring creative ideas to the table to improve the company, its services, or its products take a genuine look at it. Don't be afraid to invest in the company and learn to trust your valued employees. When ideas are brought forward don't dismiss.

The peanut gallery should not more influence than your team members.
