I have been working at Palmetto Health full-time for more than 3 years

Pros

Benefits are great and most of the fellow staff are good to work with. Job has a set schedule with every other weekend off and the number of days off can't be beat. Delivering and serving patient meals to their rooms can be very rewarding and you pretty much get to work in a very diverse environment meeting everyone.

Cons

Long hours-12 hour shifts can be killer on the feet and on sleep. The kitchen has a high turnover due to this and it is a pain to be understaffed trying to feed 300+ sick people.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give us 8 hour shifts instead of rotating 12 hour shifts

I have been working at Palmetto Health full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Nice environment as far as co-workers. Management is good, but could be better. Technology is good for this size hospital.

    Cons

Pay scale is not in line with competitors. It needs to be comparable with other Upstate hospitals, not Midlands or Low-Country. Call pay is extremely low and so are shift diffs...especially for non-nursing personnel.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work on the salary and call pay. The hospital is clean, but doesn't look it due to old furnishings and lack of upgrades.
