I have been working at Paper Source part-time

    Pros

The company is growing - opening new stores all the time. They have a great training process. Very unique products and a eye for quality. It has a very fun atmosphere to work in. Often, you hear customers laughing out loud reading different books, cards etc.....

    Cons

I can't think of any cons. It's a nice place to work.

Becoming less creative by the day

Former Employee - Assistant Store Manager
Former Employee - Assistant Store Manager

I worked at Paper Source full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

+ Great co-workers, many with artistic backgrounds. Good for networking in creative industries.
+ Differs by management team, but typically offers lots of scheduling flexibility - decent work/life balance
+ 30% employee discount on most products
+ Eligible for 5% bonus if store meets its annual sales goals.

    Cons

+ Low paying, considering the amount of training required to do the job successfully.
+ Company is moving in the direction of selling gifts and home decor tchotchkes - fewer paper products by the day. Don't expect an arts and crafts environment.
+ Corporate will not back up employees in cases of customer complaints; if your Store Manager will not go to bat for you, you will be thrown under the bus.
+ Regional managers and corporate-level employees are very dismissive, and often downright rude, to anyone below the Store Manager level. Not uncommon in retail, but always dismaying.
+ Opportunities for advancement are iffy. Qualified employees are often passed over for outside hires.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have some come-to-Jesus discussions about the direction of the company. At this point, you might as well accept a buyout from UO/Free People/Anthropologie, since PS carries all of the same merchandise found in those retailers' gift sections.
