    Pros

The staff and administration take the time to complement your contribution as a healthcare tem member. Whenever I needed guidance, I never felt intimidated to ask for help.

    Cons

Shortage of staffing and patient ratio was difficult to handle at times. However, the integrity of the nursing staff held the unit together for the best interest of the patient. (This came at a personal sacrifice to many though)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Mandatory patient ratio no greater than 5, please. It is the safest and most caring way to run a hospital.

Not horrible--ok place to get exp if you can't find work up north or don't like bigger cities.

    Pros

Easy to get a job here (lots of turnover in med/surg nursing especially), solid teamwork and staff who in general really care about patient outcomes, some really talented surgeons and internists and specialist doctors, decent 401k matching if you want to stay 6 years or more, occasional profit sharing, smaller town atmosphere in Pueblo that's pretty safe with minimal traffic and somewhat lower cost of living.

    Cons

Weak pay and benefits, hard to use sick time (must take first 8 hours as PTO which encourages folks to take off several days), no on-call schedule for nursing so if someone does call off sick you're simply screwed for that shift, middle management with little or no experience/education in management, high turnover means new grads are frequently oriented by people with a year or less experience, "orientation" is confusing and little more than unstructured role-modeling for 4-6 weeks, little attention paid to clinical best practices unless related to medicare/medicaid reimbursement, poor communication structure throughout the hospital plus poor staffing choices leading to confusion and stress for all involved which leads inevitably to weaker patient care.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You have GOT to pay more attention to retaining talent and the overall health of each team/unit. There are so many gifted employees at the RN, RT, and CNA level that make the difference in whether patients choose Parkview over SMC or a CoSprings hospital. But they're treated as expendable numbers on the expense side of the ledger. So many of us have become bitter and fed up with dangerously poor staffing choices, low pay, difficulty using hard-earned benefits, or have even been forced out due to some technicality unrelated to quality of patient care. Talking to employees around the hospital one can find abundant examples of disloyalty by Parkview management (both middle and upper) in this regard, and it's resulted in an ongoing brain drain that's dangerous for professionals and patients alike. Retaining trained staff and minimizing resentment among the ranks is critical for maintaining the health and functional capacity of each unit.
