    Pros

A good professional working atmosphere that encourages innovation, thought leadership and achievement.

    Cons

Lacks the support and direction from senior management to fully prosper in the Australian market place.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider the medium and long term strategy of the group rather than achieving short term goals

OK, but keep aware of whether it is a valuable enough experience to stay

    Pros

    * There are a variety of jobs/roles for people with a civil engineering background.
    * In some offices, there are quite talented or well-known people within their profession.
    * PB has a really interesting history, and has worked on notable projects.

    Cons

    * PB gets enough work and keeps its staff busy at a level so that they are more busy and learning more than engineers at a typical public agency, but they are not necessarily as busy as other consulting firms. This can be good or bad - I was looking for a better learning experience/more professional development, and just didn't find it with the range of projects they had.

    * PB seems to be headed towards doing preliminary engineering/GEC work more than final design. Again, this could be a positive or negative. I am more interested in doing final design work, and they weren't winning as much of that in my region of the country, but were very successful in getting prelim engineering work.

    * Pay is average, as are benefits. Pay rates, even starting with fairly low - mid level engineers, can vary significantly among staff, sometimes not in very sensible ways.

    * Managers of engineering groups in local offices are not always (often?) well suited to manage people, or seemingly given much training to do so. Adding to that, HR is not always competent at resolving personnel issues.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    * Look at the managers in local offices, and make sure they are people that are winning work.
    * Improve training, documentation, and systems related to project management and project pursuits. This information exists, but is not great.
